RSU 56 Winter Coaching Positions have been posted!

From the TWKDMS PTO:
Cougar Community!
We are off to a great school year. The Dirigo Middle School PTO plans to open the snack shack for as many home games as possible. As we restock for the year we are asking for your help. If we all work together to purchase some of the snack shack items, PTO will be able to save money and give more back to the students, teachers, and school.
Below are photos of items we are looking for that can be purchased right at our local Walmart. If you can grab any items for us, you can either contact me directly (Jana Richardson) or drop them off at the school office.
Thank you for your support and we hope to see you at our upcoming mtgs.

Happy Constitution Day! On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time and signed the document they had created together. At TWKDMS, we are observing Constitution Day with a school-wide treasure hunt! The locks on the locked-away treasure have combinations that can be solved by using Constitution clues tied to numbers of Articles, Sections, or Amendments. Go Cougars!

This afternoon RSU 56 staff attended a training on Generative AI put on by Justin Cary from Drummond Woodsum. Our goal at RSU56 is to educate our staff on A.I. use in education so that our staff can teach our students with the most recent technology initiatives.

TWKDMS has our Open House this Thursday (9/5/24) from 5:30-7:00 pm. Several community partners will be here, as will the staff so that parents and guardians can see the building and meet teachers. Mr. Long will be presenting the annual MANDATORY tech safety sessions. For a student to take a device home from TWKDMS, they MUST have a parent or guardian attend one of the sessions (they are 20 minutes each, and run one after the other starting at 5:30). Parents/Guardians unable to attend can contact the school to schedule a different time for the technology session. See you soon! Go Cougars!

The late activity bus will not start until Monday, September 9th. Students participating in practices this week will need a ride home. Soccer and Cross Country will be at DMS and end at 4:15. Field Hockey will be at DES and end at 4:15. If you want your athlete to utilize the late bus starting next week, they must be signed up to ride. Please call the office if you have any questions.

You may notice a new image on the webpage and Facebook page for TWKDMS. For the second year in a row, our new logo was designed by students. This year, Bryson, Brady, and others submitted what became the heart of the 2024-2025 TWKDMS logo. Each year we also have a motto. This year the motto is: "Eyes on the Prize." Why this? We have big goals for our students, staff, and school - and no matter what, we all need to stay focused on our mission as a school and our vision to be excellent. Let's go! See you soon! Go Cougars!

A couple of community announcements 😀

Believe it or not, we are about six weeks from the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The annual "big" middle school mailing will go home in mid-August. In the meantime, here is the school-wide supply list for those who want to sale shop. Have a great summer, and as always, Go Cougars!

RSU56 Job Posting Update

Here is the link to the DMS Final Assembly today 6/13/24 at 9:30am

We have made it to our final week of school. Here is some important information for you.
On Tuesday, we will be collecting laptops. Students must bring their computer, charger, and bag to school to turn them in. Mr. Hodgkins will review each device and bill for any missing pieces or damages.
Our school-wide field day is tomorrow. We have a fun day planned for everyone. Be sure students wear sneakers, as we will have indoor and outdoor activities. We will have a hydration station, but bringing your own water bottle would be a good idea. Students should bring sunscreen and bug spray if they can. It is essential that all 8th graders attend on Tuesday, as we will be reviewing the last assembly, learning how to march in, and going over important details.
On Wednesday, all students will be going to Mt. Blue State Park. Students are welcome to bring their fishing gear. There will be a truck to put them in so they don’t come into our building. Remove the hooks from the line if you need to bring your fishing pole on a school bus. Be sure to arrive on time, as the bus leaves by 9:15. We will return to school by 2:00.
Our final assembly will be on Thursday at 9:30. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Our doors will open at 9:15, and our students will be released for summer vacation at 11:30.

The Spring State Testing is over at TWKDMS. This year we held a raffle to celebrate student growth. Students earned raffle tickets depending on growth scores. Out of 280 tickets, 7th Grader Duncan Knox won two drawings(!), a wireless headset, and the Grand Prize: An American Bison cooler (donated by the PTO, valued at $250) filled by Mr. Long with 50 ice-cold Izzies. Testing isn't something most kids enjoy, but we think it is important to honor effort. Whatever you do, do your best! Go Cougars!

Attention Parents/Guardians: Today we sent home the Mt Blue Day permission slip for all students AND the 8th grade Class Trip permission slip for 8th graders. All forms must be returned to the office by Wednesday, June 5th. The 8th graders must bring the slip home and have their parent/guardian ALSO complete the Urban Air online waiver (the extra waiver is mandatory to jump at the jump park). Go Cougars!

Congratulations to our Choir for an excellent performance this spring at the Dixfield Congregational Church on the Hill. Go Cougars! Hear a clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOqfBavNMxg
