Maine’s Eviction Prevention Program (EPP) will open its application portal next week. EPP is a statewide program initiated by the Maine Legislature and administered by the Maine State Housing Authority (“MaineHousing”) with daily activities overseen by Project HOME.
Brief overview
EPP can provide up to $9,600 in rental assistance per eligible household.
Program funds may be used for the following activities:
rental arrears owed to the household’s current landlord; and
up to twelve months of rental payments, not to exceed the lesser of $800 per month or the monthly rental amount.
Applications will be processed according to the following priorities, on a first-come-first-served basis:
Eligible households who have received a summons and complaint for forcible entry and detainer.
Eligible households who have received an eviction notice for nonpayment of rent.
Eligible applicants who pay over 30% of their income in rent.
Please review the attached program guide and encourage eligible families who are currently past due on rent to apply for EPP as soon as possible.
