Using the internet should be treated with the same caution and care as driving a car. We use cars every day, but no parent would simply hand over the keys without first making sure that their child understands how to safely operate the vehicle. The benefits of technology are undeniable, but the risks are very real and sometimes misunderstood by parents and guardians.
Parents/guardians who completed this step last year do not need to watch it again, however, ALL new students (grade 6 and newly enrolled students) must have a parent/guardian watch this internet safety presentation.
There is a space on the TWKDMS Student Data Validation sheet (in the start of school mailing packet) where a parent or guardian will validate that they have watched the presentation at least once in the past two years.
The ONLY way to guarantee a young adult makes consistently safe and appropriate choices on the internet is if there is direct supervision during use and active parental monitoring and involvement.
Together we can prepare our students for internet highway with the same care and caution that we prepare them for the road.
