Information for Virtual Learners at DHS

Families/Students who have opted for virtual learning with Dirigo High School will be receiving the following letter in the mail:

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Per your request, you will be participating in virtual learning provided by Dirigo High School. As you recall, signing up for virtual learning means that you remain a virtual learner up through the end of the first reporting period. At that time, if you wish to opt to return to in-person learning at DHS, you will need to contact Principal Pam Doyen or Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Jess McGreevy by October 30, 2020 to let them know your intent to return to in-person learning.

As far as virtual learning, you will need to log into google classroom and connect to zoom meetings that will run synchronously with in-class learning. You will be part of your regular classroom through zoom. (Example: If you have Algebra II period 2 on A days, you need to be on zoom during that regularly scheduled class time.) This will allow you to hear the lesson and the discussion. Once the teacher indicates, you will be able to leave the zoom meeting and work independently on assignments that will be posted in google classroom. Grades, attendance and assignments will run in alignment with in-class learning. Virtual learners need to join Cougar Paw classes on Mondays. Virtual learners should respond to weekly emails from their Learning Lab teacher(s) to determine which LL’s the student should attend (virtually) for additional support.

All virtual learners will need to come to Dirigo High School on September 8, 2020 to pick up their laptops, books, and/or materials. The following schedule has been set for virtual students to pick up their materials on September 8:

Freshman 12:30-1:00

Sophomores 1:00-1:30

Juniors 1:30-2:00

Seniors 2:00-2:30

Additionally, the following expectations have been set for virtual learners:

  1. Students need to be fully and appropriately dressed and out of bed when attending virtual classes.

  2. Students will not record virtual classes.

  3. Students should attend virtual classes in a space that is void of background noise and distractions. We encourage virtual learners to use headphones with built-in microphones to reduce background noise.

  4. Students should check district email and google classrooms daily on school days.

  5. Parents must call virtual students out sick as they would during in-school sessions.

Academic questions should be addressed to assigned teachers.

The Dirigo High School Online learning coordinator is Rachel Buck. She can be reached at rbuck@rsu56.org.

The DHS schedule is included in this mailing. You can, as always, locate your specific class schedule on PowerSchool. Your PowerSchool login information is also enclosed.

Please know that we want to work with you to make virtual learning successfully.

Sincerely,

Pam Doyen, Principal

Jess McGreevy, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
