Prom Cancellation

Regrettably, the Class of 2021 must cancel Prom 2020. The decision was made in consultation with the Superintendent of Schools, and in accordance with the Maine CDC COVID-19 guidelines, the Maine Department of Education COVID-19 guidelines, and the Governor’s executive orders against large group gatherings. Our hearts are with the Class of 2020. We know they’ve sacrificed too much already.

Please know we made every effort to hold Prom, including waiting until the very last minute to cancel in hopes that conditions and restrictions within the state would be different or lifted, but sadly, that is not the case. We would like to thank Northeast Event Design & Black Mountain of Maine for the understanding, kindness, and flexibility each company showed us as we first tried to reschedule, and then made the hard decision to cancel the event. Both Sherry at BMOM and Dan at Northeast Event have been excellent to work with.

For those same reasons, we must also announce the cancelation of the annual Car Show for 2020, which also typically takes place in August. The class of 2021 wants to send our deep thanks to Mr. Rick Wilson for his continued support of the car show and Dirigo High School, and appreciate the information he provided from the car show community that helped us reach this difficult decision.

Finally, Bobbi Barnett, class of 2021 parent, has an open bottle account at both Ralph’s Store in Rumford, and the Depot by the Peru bridge to help the Class of 2021 make up the fundraising loss caused by the cancelation of the car show. Bottles can be dropped off at either location by letting the depot folks know you’d like your bottles to count for the Dirigo HS Class of 2021. Or, you can contact Bobbi directly to make arrangements for a bottle pick up at your home. Collection will last through the end of August.

On behalf of the class of 2021, we appreciate your understanding, and wish you all good health.

Sincerely,
Heidi Broomhall
