Pam Doyen, Superintendent of Schools

April 8, 2020

To  RSU 56 Students, Parents, Guardians, Staff  and Community Members,

Per Maine Commissioner of Education Pender Makin’s recommendation, with Governor Mills’ approval of that recommendation, RSU 56 schools will be preparing for remote learning for the remainder of the school year. If the Commissioner and/or Governor were to declare it safe to return to on-site learning before our last day of school, we would consider returning to on-site education at that time to allow students and staff to have closure for this academic year.

It continues to be our goal to be a source of support during this stressful period. During the school closure period, RSU 56 staff will continue to provide remote learning activities for students. We understand that each household’s circumstances are different. When it comes to remote learning, all that we ask is that you do the best that you can. Please understand that it is our intent to make sure that students will be held harmless when it comes to grading and grade promotion because of this national pandemic, as long as a good faith effort is given.

We will continue feeding students with direct delivery on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. (During April vacation we will provide direct serve only on Tuesday and Friday.) You may also pick up student meals, as needed, at TWK Dirigo Middle School daily from noon to 1:00.

If you or your family find yourself in need, please do not hesitate to contact RSU 56 for additional support. We care and are here for you.

Respectfully,

Pam Doyen
